Modeling the Overalternating Bias with an Asymmetric Entropy Measure
Psychological research has found that human perception of randomness is biased. In particular, people consistently show the overalternating bias: they rate binary sequences of symbols (such as Heads and Tails in coin flipping) with an excess of alternation as more random than prescribed by the normative criteria of Shannon's entropy. Within data mining for medical applications, Marcellin propos...
متن کاملAn asymmetric entropy measure for decision trees
In this paper we present a new entropy measure to grow decision trees. This measure has the characteristic to be asymmetric, allowing the user to grow trees which better correspond to his expectation in terms of recall and precision on each class. Then we propose decision rules adapted to such trees. Experiments have been realized on real medical data from breast cancer screening units.

متن کاملOptimization Under Constraints by Applying an Asymmetric Entropy Measure
David Lindberg and Herbert K. H. Lee Complex functions, such as the output of computer simulators, can be difficult to optimize. The task becomes even more difficult when only some of the function evaluations return real numbers and others simply fail to return a value. We combine statistical emulation, classification, sequential design, and optimization with an asymmetric entropy measure to so...
متن کاملEntropy Generation In an Unsteady MHD Channel Flow With Navier Slip and Asymmetric Convective Cooling
The combined effects of magnetic field, Navier slip and convective heating on the entropy generation in a flow of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid between two infinite horizontal parallel plates under a constant pressure gradient have been examined. Both the lower and upper plates of the channel are subjected to asymmetric convective heat exchange with the ambient fluid. T...
